In-Service to Others....
December 05, 2007
Students at Knoxville High School recently collected items to send to the troops abroad in conjunction with a program on Character Education. 37 boxes were packed with approximately 585 pounds of goods and were recently shipped to four different units serving in Iraq. Among the items collected were large quantities of personal-care items, reading material, stationery items, homemade puppy chow, and hand written greeting cards. Students at KHS look forward to receiving return messages from the troops in the New Year.
The annual Christmas Food Drive sponsored by National Honor Society and Student Council was held on December 2. Students spent their Sunday afternoon canvassing the neighborhoods in Knoxville and East Galesburg to collect perhaps the largest volume of non-perishable food items in the history of the food drive. Several teachers at KHS are offering incentives for students to bring in additional donations until the food is taken to the local food pantry. The Council of Churches will be packing Christmas baskets on December 13 and delivering to families in need.
Congratulations to the citizens of District 202 for helping Knoxville High School complete two worthy causes that will do so much to brighten the holiday season for many community members, both in Knoxville and abroad.
